Solvent ink
Solvent ink (also called solvent ink) is mainly used for writing, printing or stamping on smooth surfaces (glass, foils, PVC, enamel, metals, etc.). Thus, they are very often used in the industry for marking products. For example, best-before dates, batch numbers, lot numbers or material properties within the production chain are applied to the product with solvent inks.
On paper, solvent inks bleed through very quickly and run strongly. This is due to the low viscosity or surface tension of all solvents. The formulations of many solvent inks therefore include additional additives with viscosity-changing properties. Suitable solvents are alcohol, spirit, IPA, MEK, EthO, ethyl acetate and so on. These solvents have the property to evaporate very quickly (regardless of humidity) and thus form a dry film faster.
Our affiliated ink manufacturer Octopus Fluids GmbH & Co. KG develops solvent-based ink formulations that are precisely tailored to the corresponding applications, i.e. substrates, ink ranges, drying speeds, viscosities, temperatures and much more.
