Design and details of Brother LC-223, LC-225, LC-227, LC-229
The Brother® LC-223, LC-225, LC-227, LC-229 ink cartridges are so-called individual tanks without an integrated print head. The protected, internal ink tank is surrounded by a two-part outer housing. At the front of the cartridge, the ink outlet of the inner tank protrudes through the outer housing. At this port, the ink is transferred from the inner ink tank to the supply lines in the direction of the print head. In the upper area of the front housing cap there is a round opening behind which the air inlet for pressure compensation is located.
There is a viewing window between the ink outlet and the pressure equalization port on Brother® LC-223, LC-225, LC-227, LC-229 ink cartridges. Some of the ink level messages are generated by the float inside the window. The chip is located on the narrow top of the cartridge. This chip is also involved in the indication of the ink levels and, in addition, it identifies the cartridge to the printer. Without this chip, the cartridges are not recognized in the printer; the same applies to inserting a cartridge with a defective fill level chip. With the front housing removed, the ink tank inside is clearly visible.
