Refill instructions for Brother LC-12EBK, LC-12EC, LC-12EM, LC-12EY ink cartridges with syringe
In the first picture you can see the necessary accessories for filling the Brother LC-12E ink cartridge with the syringe. You will surely find a small flat screwdriver, a lighter and some glue in your household.
To fill the Brother LC-12E, you have to remove the cartridge's casing. To do this, loosen the small tabs behind the openings (Figure3) and pull off the upper half of the housing. Behind it you will find the inner ink tank.
After removing the first half of the housing, push back the retaining tabs on the rear half (image 5) and pull out the inner ink tank.
We have identified the rear area on the plastic frame of the tank as suitable for attaching the filler opening. There, the cannula of the refill syringe can be inserted clearly visible, sufficiently deep inside without hitting any obstacles. Take a cannula, needle or similar and heat it with a lighter. Gently press the hot needle onto the area on the frame where you want the fill hole to be. We had to heat the cannula we used several times to melt all the way through the plastic material.
Now fill your syringe with the appropriate amount of refill ink. The black Brother LC-12 EBK requires approx. 50ml refill ink. The colored LC-12EC, LC-12EM and LC-12EY ink cartridges can each be filled with approximately 12ml of ink. Insert the tip of the cannula about 1 cm - 2 cm into the filling opening inside the tank, taking care not to pierce the foils on the sides. Fill in the complete amount of refill ink and then remove the syringe from the filling opening.
After you have filled the ink, please close the filler opening again. All types of household glue or hot wax are suitable for this. Drop one or two drops of glue on the opening and let it dry. Then put both halves of the housing onto the ink tank and press them together so that they snap into each other. The cartridge is now ready to be refilled.
