The Canon MegaTank printer models have 4 separate, built-in tanks for the printer ink - it is filled into these ink reservoirs from the bottle. The tank for the black pigmented ink is located on the left side of the printer. The three individual tanks for cyan, magenta as well as yellow are arranged in a group on the right, front corner of the printer.
To refill the GI-50, GI-51 printer inks, open the top cover on your printer, including the scanner unit. This gives you access to the ink tank caps. Each tank is closed by a flip mechanism with a rubber plug attached to it. Flip the cap up and the tank to be filled is open.
We recommend refilling Canon GI-50, GI-51 compatible ink using a refill syringe with a cannula attached. This procedure is more accurate and safer in terms of cleanliness during filling. Take the desired ink color with the syringe from the ink bottle and fill the ink into the ink tank - always orientate yourself on the color of the cap on the ink tank - in this way you ensure that the correct ink color is actually filled into the correct ink tank.
Always keep an eye on the ink tank's viewing window on the printer to ensure that the correct amount of ink is being used. You can easily see the fill level and avoid overfilling the tank.
Always refill the ink tank in good time. This prevents air bubbles from getting into the ink lines connected to the tanks. It is very time-consuming to remove these air pockets from the lines again. At the same time, these air pockets can cause damage to the print heads of the connected cartridges.
