Ink Refill Instructions for Canon PG-37, PG-40, PG-50
The PG-37, PG-40, PG-50 cartridges differ with respect to the filling capacity and the printer that is used. The refilling procedure, however, is the same for all of them.
For refilling you need the following supplies:
- syringes with needles
- a small knife or a putty knife
- a small drill
- ink for Canon (PG-37: 11ml, PG-40: 16ml, PG-50: 22ml)
Preparation:
Place the cartridge on the table in front of you. Be sure to use an easy-to-clean underlay (e.g. newspaper). Carefully remove the label on the upper side of the cartridge with the putty knife or small knife as shown in picture 1. The filler opening is underneath the label. It has to be widened with the drill (picture 2).
Refilling the Canon PG-37, PG-40, PG-50 cartridges:
Insert the needle of the filled syringe into the sponge inside the cartridge. You will feel a slight resistance when you touch the sponge. Now fill in the ink (picture 3). When ink leaks from the filler opening, draw 1-2ml back into the syringe.
Then glue the label back on the cartridge.
Characteristics of the Canon PG-37, PG-40, PG-50 cartridges:
In most cases your printer will signal that your cartridge is empty even if you just refilled it. You can simply confirm this message with “OK”, or you can use a trick to see correct the filling level again. This trick is explained in the “Instructions on how to reset a Canon cartridge PG-40, PG-50, CL-41, CL-51”.
