Refill instructions for refillable Epson T0811 - T0816, T0821 - T0826 cartridges
Please note that the entire set of cartridges has to be replaced.
You need the following supplies:
- 6 syringes with needles
- 6x 10ml of ink (black, cyan, magenta, yellow, light cyan, light magenta)
- kitchen towels or newspaper as underlay
Preparing to fill the Epson fill-in cartridges:
Hold the cartridge as shown in picture 1 and identify the filler opening. It is plugged with a rubber plug (coloured or transparent, depending on the type of cartridge) and located above a large ink chamber in the cartridge. This is where you fill in the ink.
The ventilation opening, on the other hand, is located above a system of small chambers. Do not fill in ink here! The plug from this opening has to be removed later for pressure equalisation during the printing process.
Remove the plug from the filler opening.
Please make sure that you pulled the correct plug to avoid mistakes. Depending on the type of cartridge, the position of the openings may vary.
To fill the fill-in cartridges Epson T0811 - T0816, T0821 - T0826, proceed as follows:
Draw ink into the refill syringe and carefully pierce the cartridge body (picture 2). The interior of the cartridge is laminated with plastic films that must not be damaged.
Now fill in ink until you have reached the "maximum filling level" shown in picture 3.
Once the cartridge has been filled, reinsert the plug into the filler opening and pull the ventilation plug. This plug has to be removed in order to enable pressure equalisation during the printing process.
After refilling:
Now you can insert the printer cartridges into your printer. Make sure that you insert them one after the other, starting with the black cartridge. After inserting, make sure that the cap clicks into place over the cartridges.
Also make sure that the ventilation plug has been removed from all cartridges. Printing is not possible with the ventilation plug inserted.
Function of the auto reset chips of these Epson cartridges
These refillable cartridges for Epson T0811 - T0816, T0821 - T0826 are equipped with an auto reset chip. They are reset automatically when the ink level falls below a certain minimum. The printer then recognises the cartridge as "full" again, even if it has not been refilled. It is therefore very important that you keep an eye on the actual filling level. This is easy, because the refillable cartridges are transparent.
You can also reset the filling level to "full" by way of a "hard reset". For this purpose, the cover over the cartridges has to be open, so that the cartridges are accessible by hand, as if you want to replace them.
Then disconnect the printer from the power supply (e.g. by pulling the power plug). When you reconnect the power supply, the printer will recognise the refillable cartridges as "full" again.
With some printers and firmware versions, it is also possible to reset the cartridges simply by removing and reinserting them. Unfortuntely this method does not work with every printer model.
