Replacing the original chip at an Epson 24 or Epson 26 cartridge
The Epson 24 as well as the Epon 26 cartridges are equipped with a chip, which is responsible for the identification of the cartridge in the printer and provides the ink level information about the remain page yield.
A refilled cartridge cannot be used for continued printing without replacing the empty, original chip with a new alternative chip.
The chips at the Epson 24 or Epson 26 are fixed onto the cartridge´s body by two welding spots. The upper fixing point is set through a hole in the chip board. The lower welding spot is set in a cut-out in the edge of the chip.
Cut off the little mushroom cap ontop of the upper welding spot carefully. The lower welding spot can be left untouched as it can be used for fixing the alternative chip onto the cartridge later.
First remove the chip from the upper fixing point after that You can easily pull out the chip from under the lower welding spot.
After removing the original chip from the Epson 24 or Epson 26 cartridge there remain the lower fixing point with the litte mushroom cap as well as the little pin of the upper welding point.
In the lower edge of the chip board there is a cut-out. Slide that cut-out under the little mushroom cap of the lower fixing point carefully. Afterwards You can press the cut-out in the upper edge of the chip board on the remains of the upper welding spot. The remains fit into the cut-out very well.
The new alternative chip has to fit to the cartridge´s body flatly. This ensures that the contact between chip and printer can be established properly. The contact is necessary for the recognition of the cartridge inside the printer and the display of the remaining page yield.
Beside using the remaining fixing points You can also apply a little super glue to fix the chip on Epson 24 or Epson 26 cartridge. This works especially if the welding points have been damaged during removing the original chip. Place a little drop of super glue on the fixing point in the cut-out.
Please use the glue on these spots only as the glue can damage sensitive circuits in the chip board.
