HP 912 and HP 917 inkjet cartridges with chip
The HP 912 and HP 917 printer cartridges were introduced by Hewlett Packard in early 2019. The cartridges are designed as individual tanks and each cartridge is equipped with a chip. All cartridges contain pigmented ink.
The following printers currently use HP 912 and HP 917 ink cartridges: HP OfficeJet Pro 8010 Series, OfficeJet Pro 8020 Series, OfficeJet 8010. It can be assumed that the number of models will be expanded by the manufacturer.
The HP 912 and HP 917 printer cartridges are available with standard capacity (Black 3YL80AE - 300 pages; Cyan 3YL77AE, Magenta 3YL78AE, Yellow 3YL79AE - 315 pages), with XL capacity (Black 3YL84AE - 825 pages; Cyan 3YL81AE, Magenta 3YL82AE, Yellow 3YL83AE - 825 pages), and are included with the printer as a setup cartridge set.
Due to the similarity of the HP 912 and HP 917 to earlier cartridge models, we assumed when the cartridges were released that it would be possible to continue printing with refilled original cartridges and the original chip, but without the correct ink level being displayed. Now we know that this is possible. To do this, simply ignore the printer's message. However, make sure that you do not continue printing without ink. In these cases, the print head in the printer will be destroyed. Since refilling it is child's play, we recommend that you do this every 100 or 200 pages.
