Refilling HP 950, 951, 953 and 957 with QU-FILL™
The QU-FILL™ syringe cap is especially designed for ball valves on HP cartridges. It opens the valve and ink can be filled into the cartridge simultaneously. In these instructions we use the QU-FILL™ with a softmatic syringe to refill a HP 951 cyan cartridge using the vacuum method.
The first steps are to seal the two air vent holes at the HP 950 951, 953 or 957 cartridge (see pictures 2+3). These vent holes need to be sealed to create a vacuum inside the cartridge. We use simple adhesive tape to seal the lateral and upper vent holes (see pictures) airtight.
The vacuum method is very popular, because you do not need to drill into or open the cartridge. Instead the ink is sucked into the cartridge.
After sealing the vent holes draw ink into the syringe. For the diversity of cartridges we recommend different amounts of ink.
- black HP 950: approximately 23ml
- coloured HP 951: approx. 9ml
- black HP 950 XL: approx. 53ml (refilling in two rounds is recommended)
- coloured HP 951 XL: approx. 17ml each
As you can see the big HP 950 XL cartridge contains 53ml ink. We recommend to fill the cartridge in two rounds so that you have enough way to pull the plunger up.
Insert the filled syringe with QU-FILL™ cap approximately 1cm into the ink outlet of the cartridge and hold it tight with one hand. Pull the plunger up to about 60ml (picture in the middle). Now release the plunger. Due to the vacuum inside the cartridge the ink is automatically sucked inside.
In our example it is enough to pull the plunger up onse. If that does not work with your cartridge you can repeat the procedure. Pull the plunger up again (if necessary a few times) until no ink is left inside the syringe. If you have too much ink inside the syringe give it some time to compensate the pressure differences. Than remove the syringe from the ink outlet. We recommend to choose a workplace that is protected against staining with ink. We assume no liability.
Features of the HP 950, 951, 953, 957 cartridges:
Until now there is no way to reset the chip on these cartridges. But as with almost all printers you can easily dismiss or ignore the filling level indicator and continue printing. Another way is to exchange the original chip into a new one from our assortment. The ink filling level is indicated correctly afterwards.
