Refill instructions HP 10, HP 11, HP 13, HP 82, HP 84, HP 85, HP 88

Please read the instructions carefully before you start refilling.
Prepare your workplace in such a way as to prevent a permanent contamination with ink.

You need the following supplies:

  • a small knife (e.g. a cutter knife)
  • a screw opener to pull out the plug
  • a new plug for each cartridge
  • a replacement chip for each cartridge
  • refill syringes with needles

Ink:

  • small cartridges approx. 26ml
  • large cartridges approx. 69ml

These volumes refer to completely empty cartridges.

Before refilling:

Refilling these cartridges is more difficult than with other cartridges, but with these instructions, it is feasible.
Hold the cartridge and carefully cut the label between the cartridge body and the cartridge bottom (picture 1). Remove the bottom and put it aside. Then pull the ink bag out of the cartridge. For this purpose, push the outer walls of the cartridge body slightly apart and carefully pull out the plastic bag. Put the cartridge aside.
Now, pull the rubber ball from the ink bag with the screw opener (picture 2).

Refilling HP 10, HP 11, HP 13, HP 82, HP 84, HP 85, HP 88 cartridges:

Blow air into the ink bag (picture 3) using a syringe without a needle. This is important, because the ink filled in afterwards does not provide enough pressure to spread the ink bag open during refilling.
Once the ink bag is blown up, you can start the actual refilling. Carefully insert the needle of the ink-filled syringe into the ink bag (picture 4) and fill it with the corresponding amount of ink. Attention: Do not pierce the bag!

After filling it with ink, you need to bleed the air from the ink bag and close it with the plug included in the delivery.
To bleed the air from the ink bag, hold it as shown in picture 5 and press it carefully until ink rises up in the ink inlet opening. Maintain this position and close the ink bag with the plug.
Then hold the ink bag as shown in picture 6 and carefully insert a syringe with needle into the ink outlet; draw out air until the syringe draws ink.
The ink bag is now filled and can be reinserted into the cartridge (picture 7).

Particularities of HP 10, HP 11, HP 13, HP 82, HP 84, HP 85, HP 88 cartridges:

With these cartridge series, you have to replace or reset the chip after refilling. The chip is needed to monitor the filling level and notify you when the cartridge is "empty".
Please read the instructions regarding chip replacement and resetting under the link below.
