Ink Refill Instructions for HP 940, 940 XL
Please read the instructions thoroughly before starting. Please prepare your workplace in such a way that permanent staining with ink is not possible.
You need the following supplies:
- a small knife (e.g. cutter knife)
- a tool for removing the plug from the filler opening
- new plugs for each cartridge
- syringes with needles
Ink:
- small cartridges approx. 29ml
- big cartridges approx. 69 ml
These figures apply for completely empty cartridges.
Preparation:
Refilling these cartridges is a little more complicated than with other cartridges, but feasible if you follow our instructions.
Carefully cut through the label between body and base of the cartridge (picture 1). Remove the base and put it aside. Then bend the outer wall of the cartridge container and carefully pull the plastic ink bag out. Now you can put the container aside.
Afterwards pull the rubber bullet with the tool for removing plugs out of the bag (picture 2).
Refilling HP 940 cartridges:
With an empty syringe without needle, inject air into the ink bag to inflate it (picture 3). This is important because the ink that you fill in later is not strong enough to widen the bag.Now carefully insert the syringe with needle (already filled with ink) into the ink bag (picture 4) and fill in the appropriate amount of ink. Be careful not to puncture the bag.
After filling in the ink, you have to vent the ink bag and seal it with the enclosed plug.For ventilation, hold the ink bag as shown in picture 5 and carefully press it until ink comes out of the filler opening. Then seal the bag with the plug without increasing or reducing the pressure.Then hold the bag as shown in picture 6, carefully insert a syringe with needle into the filler opening and extract air until ink is drawn into the syringe.The ink bag is now filled and can be reinserted into the cartridge container (picture 7). Put the base of the cartridge with the integrated chip back in place. Now you can insert the cartridge into your printer and continue printing.
Characteristics of HP 940 cartridges:
The chip at the HP 940 cartridge cannot be reset at the moment. However, replacement chips for HP 940 are available at our Online-Shop.
