The HP 932, HP 933 cartridge protection
Printers with HP 932, 932 XL, HP 933, 933 XL cartridges have the HP cartridge protection. It binds the cartridge to a special printer so that this cartridge can not be used in a different printer. The cartridge protection is activated by default. This means for refillers that changing refilled cartridges in between customers and printers is more complicated than usual.
You can disable the HP cartridge protection. The menu item Devices and Printers leads you to the printer that uses the HP 950, 951 cartridges. There you can find the link to "estimated ink filling levels" below the upper right menu item for purchasing resources. Marked red in the next picture.
The link "estimated ink filling levels" leads you to the printer menu. The right tab "HP cartridge protection" is what you are looking for. Here you find the HP cartridge protection activated by default. That means that every cartridge that is inserted into the printer is being bind to this printer with its serial number. These informations are saved on the chip of the cartridge. In this way every printer recognises this cartridge bound to another printer.
This protection can not be disabled once it is written on the chip of the cartridge. When you are disabling the cartridge protection in the printer menu it affects only the next cartridge that is inserted into the printer.
Consequences for refillers
Explain this function to your customers. Refiller and retailers are dependend on the reusability of cartridge empties.
We recommend disabling the HP cartridge protection to ensure a simple exchangeability of refilled cartridges. This way refilled cartridges can also be used in different printers. You have to test empties from which you do not know if they are protected before giving them to other customers.
Features of the HP 932, HP 933 cartridges:
So far there is no possibility to reset the chip on the cartridge. But as with nearly all printers it is possible to disable or ignore the ink filling level indicator and continue printing.
Another way is to exchange the original chip with a new one from us (see right). The ink filling level is correctly displayed afterwards.
