1. Preparation
You need the following supplies:
- 4 syringes with needles
- 3ml of cyan, magenta, yellow ink each
- 4 ml of black ink for the small cartridge, 14 ml of black ink for the XL cartridge
- paper towel or newspaper as underlay
- a cutter knife or a putty knife
Before refilling:
Put the needles on the syringes and draw in the recommended amount of ink, then put them aside.
Remove the cartridges from your printer and place them with the print head down on the underlay. Carefully remove the labels from the cartridges with a cutter knife (picture 1). Carefully slip the blade under the label and peel it off. Put the label aside; you will need it again after refilling the cartridge.
2. To refill the cartridge, proceed as follows:
After removing the label, you can see the filler openings. The colour cartridge has 3 ink chambers for the 3 colours cyan, magenta and yellow. The allocation of the ink chambers is shown in picture 2.
Insert the needle of the syringe into the respective ink chamber until 3mm above the bottom (picture 3). You will notice a little resistance due to the sponge inside the cartridge. Now carefully insert ink into the ink chamber. If ink leaks from the filler opening, you filled in too much. To extract 1-2 ml of ink, withdraw the needle to the upper third of the cartridge and draw ink back into the syringe. Repeat this procedure with the other ink chambers until no ink leaks from any of them.
To refill the black cartridge, insert the needle into the cartridge until 3mm above the bottom (picture 4). You will notice a little resistance due to the sponge inside the cartridge. Now carefully insert the ink. If ink leaks from the filler opening, you filled in too much. To extract 1-2 ml of ink, withdraw the needle to the upper third of the cartridge and draw ink back into the syringe until the cartridge no longer leaks.
3. After refilling:
Clean the print head and the upper side of the cartridge with the filler openings with a paper towel. Glue the label back on in the same position. Now you can reinsert the cartridge into your printer.
Please observe the following general advice:
Never print until the cartridge is completely empty. It is better to fill in a small amount of ink once in a while to avoid the injectors drying out and plugging and keep the sponge inside the cartridge malleable. After refilling, let the cartridge with sponge rest on an absorbent underlay for approximately 15 minutes. Never insert a dripping cartridge into the printer! Clean the print head with distilled water at regular intervals.
